The truth about coming HOME to yourself

I talk a lot about what it means to come home to yourself.

But if you’re anything like me, you’ve spent decades doing the exact opposite.

As kids, we learn what’s “acceptable” from our parents, teachers, leaders. We shape ourselves to fit the mold. Later, the world piles on: culture, expectations, the constant pressure to be more, do more, give more.

Some of those rules are obvious:
Work hard. Don’t rest. Keep the peace.

Others are quieter but cut just as deep:

Don’t take up space. Don’t show your pain. Don’t need too much.

And piece by piece, we learn how to leave ourselves behind.

Maybe you smiled when you wanted to cry.

Maybe you said “yes” when every fiber of your body whispered “no.”

Maybe you pushed past exhaustion just to keep up.

That’s what self-abandonment looks like. And if you’re here reading, you probably know the ache of it.

So what does coming home look like?

It’s the opposite.

It’s remembering you don’t have to perform to be worthy.

It’s unlearning the rules that keep you small.

It’s giving yourself permission to rest, breathe, and simplybe… without apology.

When you come home, you reclaim what was never actually lost:

→ The quiet knowing in your body.

→ The strength that doesn’t need proving.

→ The joy that rises when you finally let yourself be whole.

And here’s the truth: you don’t have to earn your way back. You don’t need to wait for permission. You get to choose it right here, right now.

I want you to know, I’m on this journey too. We don’t arrive at some polished version of ourselves where the struggle disappears. Coming home isn’t about crossing a finish line.

It’s about presence. Feeling your own skin, even for a breath. Softening, again and again, into what’s already here.

Yes, the world will keep whispering and shouting its unrealistic rules. But when you’ve tasted what home feels like, you can loosen your grip on the striving. You can stop chasing “there” and start living here.

Wherever you are on your path, I see you. And I want you to know: finding your way back is possible.

Ready to take your first step?

I created a free yoga class called “Come Home to Yourself”for women who are tired of leaving themselves behind. Inside, you’ll find a guided breath, gentle flow to support your nervous system, and practices to soften old patterns of self-abandonment. It’s 40 minutes of realignment, reconnection, and remembering what home feels like in your own body.
