When Slowing Down Isn’t About Doing Less
Lately, I’ve been sitting with what “slowing down” actually means…
A coaching client recently had a powerful realization:
“Slowing down isn’t really about doing less.
It’s about changing my attitude when things are going awry and relaxing into the reality of what’s happening.”
Yes.
This kind of slowing down doesn’t always mean doing less on the outside. Sometimes life is full, and that’s okay.
But internally, we can shift the pace… soften the grip on how we think things should be going, interrupt the urgency, breathe into the moment.
It can look like:
Pausing before texting a friend or partner to see how they feel about something and first checking in with yourself.
Catching the urge to immediately fix what feels off, and instead giving it space to breathe.
Noticing the belief that “I should be doing more,” and gently asking, Is that actually true for me right now?
Choosing to rest or reset, even just for a minute, rather than overriding your body’s cues.
Interrupting the old inner story that says you’re behind or not enough… and remembering you get to move at your pace.
That inner slowing down… that is the real medicine.
It brings us into the now.
It makes room for clarity.
It helps the nervous system exhale.
If your energy has felt tangled or tense, or like you’re pushing against life itself, I invite you to tune in with nature, with your own timing, and with what matters most.
